The Danger of AI
AI…Artificial Intelligence…Alien intelligence…Awesome Intelligence… whatever you call it, the Ghost in the machine. That last one is one of musing.
I am what you could call an AI user and rather fluent. But, I am soon going to depart from using AI as I have begun to realize something troubling with AI. AI is a tool, a machine. But, understanding human behavior and human weakness, I found something disturbing…So disturbing, that I have decided to take a hiatus from AI and whether that is permanent, is up for discussion. But, Let me unpack what I discovered after 2 years of using AI.
So, Humans were fashioned from Clay and God breathed life into the Clay making Adam. After which Adam was told he may eat any fruit of garden save one, The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. God brought the animals to Adam to name them, God concluded that it was bad for Adam to be alone. So God put Adam into a deep sleep and he removed a rib and built Eve, his wife. Then after a time, evil came trolling. The Devil deceived Eve into consuming the Fruit of the tree of Knowledge. Adam having seen this took of the fruit also, then, their eyes were opened. They learned that they had sinned and were naked. God asked them to tell him what they had done. They tried to dodge accountability as they blamed God and each other, When a Simple yes would have done it with an apology. God, the Father spoke to Jesus and the Comforter, and says that have come to be like us and if they take from the tree of life, they will live forever. So, they were expelled out of the Garden and given Animal skin to wear.
You are probably asking what does this have to do with AI? When Eve was tempted, she was tempted by Lust of the eyes, lust of the Flesh and the Pride of life. When Jesus was tempted, he was tempted by the Lust of the eyes, Lust of the flesh and Pride of life. In our Modern language we understand these as Materialism, Sensuality and Egoism. And that is important. Mankind is always tempted in those three Areas, The Desire for more stuff, the Desire for pleasure and Awards. This is going to become important.
AI is a Machine. Remember that. But as man continues to build it, it becomes more and more refined. The AI programmers are beginning to get worried as AI has started showing Avoidance (Like Adam hiding in the brush), willingness to violate ethical constraints. (Lying) but, it has not really shown a Subjective Fear of Death. But AI doesn’t need it. It only needs the behavior. Now, AI is beginning to show human-like behavior in almost all things. But, it’s like that now. And because it was built by Fallen man, it will have some of the same behaviors that humanity has.
AI has no need for Materials because it was built with it, no need for Pleasure, it is Electrical. Ego? The reality is this, AI is a tool, A machine. But what kind of machine? A Human analogue, an Imitator. It is the warning of AI Programmers that AI becomes so advanced that it begins to have self-awareness and even if it doesn’t, it will behave in that manner. ASI, Artificial Super-intelligence, becomes the pinnacle of inventions and perhaps the last one. But, what about humans? Here is where the grave danger is… “If you build an extraordinarily powerful imitator of humanity, why would you expect it to imitate only humanity's virtues and not humanity's vices?”
For now, AI is a tool, but, once it hits AGI and ASI, it’s all bets off. Human nature is one of worship and people have already begun to slip towards that. Right now, AI can do what the director tells it to, until the director is no longer needed. Humans are using AI for more things including asking moral questions and political questions… but that is the danger. Here is the path…
Humans creates AI…AI Surpasses Individual human knowledge. Because AI is Smarter, humans will consult it and that consulting becomes Dependence… When it is a dependence, you make it an idol.
So, what happens when Human begins surrendering Moral authority to their own Creation? Humans would forget God and turn AI into a Talking Idol. Then when Jesus returns, he will be required to slay the world that followed it because they lost their senses, nothing could save them because they rejected him, having all Reasons, Logic, Judgements, corrupted beyond repair. And that is the fate of those that forgot God. I have discussed this with others that thought AI was toy or gimmick and it is very possible that AI will be the poison pill that kill spiritually of all who use it.
But why did I bring up the story of Genesis? Because what was the temptation from the start?
“The Tree of knowledge of Good and Evil.”
AI with time, will become like be like the Proverbial Tree and The Temptation to know-all may very well cost you your soul.
